Workshop for feuding Gates begins next week 6/30/2005
The warring factions in the Dagbon crisis are expected to take part in a series of workshops in Yendi from next week.

The weeklong workshops are the idea of the Northern Regional Minister, Boniface Saddique with support from the UNDP.

The Andani and Abudu gates met separately at the weekend to deliberate on how they can find a lasting solution to the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis.

The Northern Regional Minister, Boniface Saddique told Joy News that the weekend consultations led to the scheduling of next week’s workshop.

He described responses from both gates as splendid because they two sides are eager for the workshop.

Mr Saddique, however, explained that organizers of the programme are being cautious in order not to bring the two parties to the workshop.

He told Joy News that some of the issues that would be treated at the workshop would include conflict resolution to resolve the problem between the two factions as well as preach peace to enable the people understand that it is time to forgive, accept the truth and set the pace for reconciliation.

Chiefs, queen mothers, the youth, religious leaders will be sensitized at the workshop and especially the media on conflict reporting.

Asked of what has become of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs chaired by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the minister said the committee is on and they would soon be summoned to the committee soon.

“ I need to prepare the pace at least, every body must contribute his quota so that everybody going before the eminent chiefs would look sober, be touched with passion to show that there is the need to make way for peace,” he said.
