Rawlings accuses NPP of rigging 2004 polls 10/16/2005
Former President Rawlings says there is evidence to show that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) rigged the last presidential elections.

Speaking at the Volta regional congress of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in Kpando, Mr. Rawlings accused the NPP machinery of stuffing ballot boxes with ballot papers in its strongholds in order to win the 2004 election.

He alleges that the ruling government rigged the elections to cover up for its corrupt activities in its first term of office

Former President Rawlings who is also the founder of the NDC accused the leadership of the NDC for failing to act on the available evidence of vote rigging.

The congress to elect regional executives of the party was held up for 3 hours to enable top executives of the party to impress upon some contestants to step down for others.

Eventually former MP for Ketu North Modestus Ahiable was retained unopposed as Regional Chairman. His challenger, former MP of HO East, Steve Akorli, withdrew from the contest.
