Military restricts entry into Burma Camp 9/6/2015

There are indications that the Ghana Armed Forces has stepped up security at some of its installations in the country.

Accra-based Joy FM reported Thursday that army was restricting entry at Burma Camp in Accra to only people with valid proof of identification.

The report said last guards at the entrance of the camp had, since last Thursday, been turning away residents and visitors who were unable to provide any identity card.

“This is our camp, it is a military zone. We need to know everyone who enters,” one of the soldiers at the entrance was quoted as having said.

The development comes after reports that a 25-year-old male student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Nazir Nortei Alema, left the country to join the dreaded Islamic State.
