Elmina Chiefs boycott Mahama’s Harbour sod cutting ceremony 8/18/2013

Chiefs in Elmina have boycotted a sod cutting ceremony by President John Mahama to construct a harbor. The chiefs claim they were not consulted by the government in the citing of the harbor. “We have issues to settle with the KEEA and the people that gave the said land which the sod cutting will take place to them. “We were not privy to any discussion..., therefore, we are not going to participate in the sod cutting ceremony.
“All this while, the council has not been consulted in the deliberation and determination of the land on which the sod cutting will take place. “We will take legal action against the people who want to work on the said land,” Akwamuhene of the Edina Traditional area, Nana Kojo Aduakwa the V threatened at a press conference. The chiefs have carried out their threats. Even though the sod cutting ceremony has begun in earnest on Saturday, Joy News’ Central Region correspondent, Richard Kwadwo Nyarko, said the absence of the chiefs is conspicuous.
