Ministry condemns blood-licking act 6/23/2005
The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has joined in the condemnation of a teacher who allegedly forced his pupils to lick his blood.

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded, Yao Yikoubou, the French teacher at the centre of the outrage.

He is to re-appear on June 28. Deputy Minister for Women and Children Affairs, J. B. Danquah Adu says the incident should draw attention of teachers to the need to protect the rights of children.

The teacher is said to have asked the pupils to lick the blood as part of a trial by ordeal to recover some money stolen from a pupil.

Human rights groups have condemned the act as well saying the teacher should be made to face the full rigours of the law.

Samples of the teacher’s blood have been taken to ascertain whether he has HIV or any sexually transmitted diseases.
