Glorious Maidens beat Germany to win Bronze 10/14/2012

The National U-17 womens football team the Black Maidens beat Germany to win bronze in the ongoing World Cup in Azerbaijan.

Patricia Okyere was the heroine for the Maidens who played the better part of the game with ten girls.

The victory is historic for a side that had never gone past a group stage in all categories of the Womens World Cup and was a sweet revenge against Germany, a side they lost to in their opening group game.

Fatima received her second yellow card and a matching off orders in just 30 minutes of play but that did not deter the Maidens.

Okyere connected a teasing cross from the right in the 36th minute for what will be the priceless goal for the Maidens.

Credit however will be given to Sumaila whose lightening pace on the right could not be curtailed by her markers.

She set Okyere up with an immaculate cross and finish was superb.

Okyere was however forced out of the game with an injury minutes after scoring the goal.

The maidens held on ruthlessly and were unlucky not to have increased the tally for most part.

1-0 it ended for the Maidens.
