Upgraded GH¢50 Notes To Be Released On Tuesday 8/19/2012

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) will from next Tuesday release onto the market the new 50 Cedi notes. The BoG last July announced plans to introduce the notes this month as according to the bank there was the need to discourage fraudsters from printing counterfeits of the notes. The Acting Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Kofi Wampah at a meeting with some journalists on Wednesday announced the notes are ready for distribution to the various banks. The new GH¢50 notes now has some security features the bank believes would make it impossible for counterfeiters to reproduce. Here are some of the security features the new notes would have. The new feature is in the form of a cocoa pod. The colour of the pod changes progressively from bright green like a young green cocoa pod to an intense blue. A moving being rises on the cocoa pod when you flip the bank note. It is easy to check and it’s the most modern bank note. The size and colour of the upgraded 50 Cedis is the same as the old one. The only difference between the two is that cocoa pod replace the holographic patch and that the number 50 at the bottom of the front is now green instead of gold. These elements will change appearances when you take the bank note. The Cocoa pod changes colour progressively from green to blue and back to green.
