| I Don’t Blame The Chinese…We''ve Allowed Them To Prey On Our Failings – Randy Abbey |

Host of Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show, Randy Abbey, believes Ghanaians have themselves to blame if other nationals have taken them hostage in their own land.
Speaking in relation to reports that some Chinese illegal miners fired on locals in a community in the Ashanti Region, Mr Abbey said if the security of the state had been well-strengthened and punitive actions taken against foreigners who flout the laws of the land, things would not have gotten out of hand.
There was near-chaos at Manso-Nsiena, a town near Asante Bekwai in the Amansie West District on Thursday morning when the chiefs and people of the community, angered by the activities of a mining company, which they claim their checks at the Minerals Commission indicate only has the authority to conduct exploration for minerals but not to mine, invaded the mining site ostensibly to stop the Chinese miners from operating in the area.
However, the Chinese miners, said to belong to the Hansol Company Limited reportedly fired gun shots to disperse the youth as they attempted to put in motion their intended objective.
Though there was no loss of life, the quick intervention of the police helped to avert what could have been an explosive encounter.
Contributing to discussions on the influx of Chinese businessmen in the country on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, Randy Abbey was of the firm opinion that some of these expatriates, especially the Chinese, are only capitalizing on our weakness to make money.
“As far as I am concerned the Chinese have done no wrong, they are simply being wise and smart. Don’t we get tired talking about the same thing over and over again? Most of us have had the opportunity to travel and I am sure the very things the Chinese are doing here would never be tolerated in other countries. In countries where there is development, law is enforcement whilst in Ghana, law is enactment. Whiles others are ensuring their laws work, we are not concerned about that,” he bemoaned.
The ace television morning show host maintained that the country has itself to blame for the current turn of events.
He lamented that though there are adequate laws in Ghana to deal with the trading activities of foreigners in the country, we are noted for procrastinating sanctions when the foreigners go wrong.
“They are now competing with indigenous retailers in Ghana in almost everything. I have been briefed that they are even importing coffins into the country…furniture, by setting up their own retail outlets…In all these things, they are being clever and sensible and preying on our limitations...They are very clever and sensible and I laud their ingenuity…,” he said rather sarcastically.
