Test On Essien Shows Serious Injury Blow 7/10/2011
The first test on Michael Essien crocked knee has shown that the Chelsea star may have suffered a serious injury, insiders have told Ghanasoccernet.com.

The results of the MRI scan carried out in London on Friday do not look promising for the Ghana midfielder powerhouse, friends have told this website.

He will undergo a series of tests over the weekend for doctors to be conclusive about the extent of injury had how long he would stay out for. Chelsea reported that Essien suffered the right knee injury this week without stating a specific day but media reports in the UK say he suffered the injury on Friday.

Essien started light training with the club this week but he is rumoured to have moved into full gear on Friday when he suffered the injury. Despite the revelations from the players friends, Chelsea are adamant that all the tests must be concluded before a conclusion is reached.

A Chelsea spokesman said: “People have been speculating about the extent of the injury, but it is dangerous to jump the gun. “Michael will be sent away for tests over the weekend and we will not be commenting further until the results of those tests are known. “We want to make sure we have the full picture and I don’t think we will know how serious it is until Monday at the earliest.”

Essien will be concerned, however, that he is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines, having suffered a similar problem in September 2008. Then, he damaged his anterior cruciate ligament while on international duty, ruling him out for six months.
