NDC footsoldiers attack studio panelists in Bolga 3/19/2011

Footsoldiers of the ruling party in the Upper East Region are reported to have attacked studio panelists on a private radio station, Friday.

The regional police commander ACP Bright Oduro who confirmed the incident say the panelist suffered several bruises after the attack.

What was expected to be peaceful political discussion on Radio A1 in the Upper East Region turned violent with the NDC representative Samuel Abane alleged to have instigated the skirmishes.

The NPP representative on the programme Randy Agana told Joy News the scuffle started when the NDC rep. started interjecting without allowing other panelists to contribute.

According to him, Samuel Abane and the PNC rep were engaged in severe head-butting in the studio and when he attempted to separate them, the former turned his rage on him.

He said the two then left the confines of the studio and continued with their fisticuffs before the NDC footsoldiers waded in.

Samuel Abane and the PNC rep were not immediately available for comment.

The Police were said to have intervened and invited the casualties as well as the host of the programme for questioning.

“We saw the PNC man badly bruised with swollen face; the NDC man similarly badly bruised with swollen face; the NPP man also had some slight injuries,” he confirmed.

He said his outfit will begin thorough investigations into the matter on Monday.

The men have since been released.
