Three countries keen to play Ghana in friendlies 10/21/2010

Three countries have expressed interest in playing Ghana in next month’s international friendly date, the Ghana Football Association has confirmed.

Bulgaria, Belarus and Libya have all slapped in their proposals to play in the Black Stars at a convenient location for the players.

“There are quite a number of offers on the table. I am hearing Wales and Nigeria for the first time but I know of Bulgaria and Belarus.” Fred Pappoe, the GFA vice president said.

The preparations for the next month’s Fifa friendly date has been clouded by the Ministry of Sport’s decision to negotiate with the Angolan government for a game against the Black Stars on the same date.

With the government now keen to be involved in organizing friendly matches for the Black Stars, it might disrupt the plans for the team.

With many options available, the proximity of the venue for a friendly must be taken into consideration before a friendly is organized.

The quality of opposition must also be examined to ensure that the Black Stars are adequately tested and also maintain their high place in the Fifa ranking. With most of the players coming from Europe, playing Angola who are in southern Africa could prove to be too difficult for the Black Stars.

Pappoe noted that he is hopeful that no tug-of-war will ensue between the FA and the Ministry over who Ghana plays in a friendly game.
