Burkinabes storm Upper East to register 6/19/2010

People suspected to be citizens of Burkina Faso are in the Upper East Region ostensibly to take part in the ongoing voters registration exercise.

Joy FM’s Upper East Regional Correspondent Isaac Osei who has been part of an undercover investigation reports that some unscrupulous men have consistently bused the ''aliens'' into Paga, Navrongo and neighboring towns to take part in the registration exercise.

According to him they saw a red-ford ranger pick-up on two occasions pick ‘aliens’ from Burkina Faso only to bring them to register in Ghana.

It is not yet clear which political party is behind the illegal act.

Joseph Osei said the ‘aliens’ are unable to speak any Ghanaian language and were also acting funny.

He said electoral officers have been alerted of the phenomenon, but are yet to take any firm action.

The report comes in the wake of allegations that some NDC officials in the Western Region were busing people from the Ivory Coast to vote, an allegation the party has been quick to dismiss.
