Lifeline For Local Artistes 11/2/2007
Metropolitan Television (Metro TV) has launched a programme to raise funds to support local artistes, especially musicians whose works are featured on the station’s programme, Advertising Cycle (Ad Cycle).

The management of Metro TV, through the fundraising, would donate any amount realised to the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) for distribution to the artistes.

In response to the appeal, Print Bureau, a printing, advertising and management agency has presented a cheque for GH¢500 (¢5 million).

Tommy Anderson Dodoo, CEO of Print Bureau who presented the cheque to the deputy Managing Director of Metro TV, Mr. Alhassan Haruna, said the money was their widow’s mite towards a worthy cause.

He said local artistes, whose works continue to entertain and educate Ghanaians had been living in deplorable conditions because of the poor returns from their works.

Mr. Dodoo promised to continue supporting local musicians, whose works he described as indispensable in the cohesion of this country. He said his company helps mobile phone users to download softwares like the Bible onto their phones.

Mr. Haruna thanked the company for its support and called on other organisations and individuals to come to the aid of the local musicians who are virtually handicapped by the works of pirates.

He mentioned that a substantial amount of money had been collected and that from October to November it would be made available to MUSIGA.
