New developments on the 19 parcels of ‘cocaine,’ which have become known as ‘Bible Cocaine’ seized in the Harbour City of Tema, are that the parcels did not contain cocaine after all. The substance, believed to be cocaine, rather turned out to be corn flour, sand and starch. The developments have put the police in a tight corner since the issue looks like ‘thief-man thief thief-man’ particularly as it is being suggested that a scam might have been put in place to dupe the suspected drug barons.
The scammers might have collected huge sums of money with the pretence of supplying the 18 parcels of ‘cocaine’ to some drug baron(s) but later faked the situation to make it appear as if they (scammers) had been arrested by the police and therefore could not deliver the consignment.
The police would probably have to go back to the drawing board to re-strategise, especially when the informant who gave them the tip-off cannot be traced.
If the substance had turned out to be real cocaine, it would have had a street value of $270,000 and would have been the largest drug seizure at the Harbour City since the MV Benjamin saga of early last year.
The police, just after ‘arresting’ the brown Opel Astra Estate with registration number GW 3757 W, sent the whitish substance to the Ghana Standards Board (GSB) for analytical examination which proved that it was not cocaine.
