Queens Beat Banyana Banyana 8/27/2007
Black Queens, Ghana''s women senior national side beat their South African counterparts 1-0 in Pretoria on Saturday in the Olympics qualifiers

Ghana, who beat Nigeria 1-0 three weeks ago, are top of the log with six points, while Nigeria have collected three points. Banyana Banyana are sitting at the bottom of the log

The top team will automatically make it to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, while the runners-up will meet Brazil in an attempt to qualify.

Banyana thought they had taken the lead when Noko Matlou rattled the net with a low strike in the second stanza, but the goal was disallowed.

The only goal came 13 minutes before the final whistle, thanks to Anita Amankwa''s long-range effort.

The result left Banyana team manager Fran Hilton-Smith fuming. "The officials, especially the referee, killed us," she said.

"They are all from Zimbabwe and understandably they don''t get to officiate many matches. They disallowed our goal for no reason, but accepted Ghana''s goal even though it had been scored from an off-side position."

"After the match, we asked the referee why she disallowed our goal and she said she didn''t know!"
