Prez Kufuor To Cut Sod For Bui Project 8/16/2007
His Excellency, President John Agyekum Kufuor will cut a sod to mark the commencement of the Bui-hydropower project at the Bui Site on August 24, 2007. The Energy Minister, Hon Joseph Adda announced this today at the meet the Press series in Accra. When completed, the Dam will generate 400 MW of hydro-power and will also be used for irrigation, fisheries and tourism purposes.



The Chinese government is providing a loan of 562million dollars for the project whilst the government of Ghana is to provide a counterpart funding of 60million dollars, bringing the total funding to 622million dollars. The minister said a total of 3400 constructional workers made up of 2,900 Ghanaians and 500 Chinese will be employed for the project. According to the Minister, recruitment of the workers will start soon after the sod-cutting ceremony.
