Lightning causes train delays 7/14/2007
9 July 2007

UTRECHT – Heavy storms earlier today disrupted train service in various parts of the country. Lightning made train travel impossible on some routes.

Rail infrastructure manager ProRail said earlier that trains were unable to run between Delft and The Hague, Heerhugowaard and Hoorn and between Purmerend Overwhere and Hoorn. Nor were any trains running between Leiden and Hoofddorp – traffic on this route resumed at 1 pm.

The lightning resulted in power failures along these routes causing signals, switches and crossings to fail.
