Verhagen doesn''''t want to boycott Iran 6/30/2007
28 June 2007

THE HAGUE – Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen does not plan to revoke the state guarantee on export credit assurances on which businesses that trade with Iran can fall back on.

Removing this security for businesses would in effect result in an economic boycott and now is not the time for that, Verhagen told Parliament on Thursday.

The Centre for Information and Documentation on Israel (CIDI) says that the government should stop encouraging trade with Iran in this way. The ChristenUnie and the fundamentalist Christian SGP brought up the matter with Verhagen today. Verhagen says the measure would result in a boycott, which he is not in favour of.
