Lions devour Hearts 6/18/2007
Kpando Heart of Lions on Sunday showed their supremacy over Accra Hearts of Oak when they beat them 2-1 in the second round of the OneTouch Top Four Soccer tournament at the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium at Cape Coast.

Lions pipped Hearts of Oak 1-0 in the first leg of the competition at the same venue.

The Kpando lads who had better exchanges in the first half shot into the lead in the 37th minute through outside right Addoquaye Addo when he connected a neat pass from colleague Osei Banahene into the net to register the first goal.

They continued to dedicate the pace of the game and it came as no surprise when Addo who rounded up a host of defenders of Hearts before laying a pass to midfielder Samuel Ellis to raise his side’s goal tally to two in the 43rd minute.

Sensing danger Hearts brought on Sherif Mohammed for Bernard Don Bortey with Joe Tagoe replacing Ishmael Addo in the second half.

The changes went on well for the Phobians as substitute Mohammed combined effectively with Stanley Afedzi and Eric Gawu and it was a matter of time for Mohammed to put his name on the score sheet by reducing the tally in the 49th minute through a goal mouth melee.

In the 65th minute, Lions Ofosu Appiah was shown the marching off order by Referee P.K. Aziza for a second bookable offence.

Lions despite playing with 10 men continued to match the Phobians squarely and held onto their lead till the full time to record their second sweet victory and leave their Accra lads at the bottom of the table.
