GFA''s Appeals Committee restores Abedi Pele’s Nania FC 5/29/2007
The Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association has quashed the decision of the Disciplinary Committee to demote Abedi Pele’s Nania FC for alleged match fixing offences.

The Committee has set the entire Disciplinary Committee proceedings in the probe of alleged match-fixing aside for lack of compliance with the rules of natural justice and the FA''s own rules.

The case will now be sent back to the Disciplinary Committee for re-hearing if the GFA desires to pursue the matter.

Nania FC were demoted to the Third Division and its players and officials including Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele banned for one year from entering any dressing room on suspicion of match fixing after they beat Okwawu United 31-0 during the first division playoffs for Premier League qualification.

Effectively, Nana FC will feature in the 2007/2008 Premier League while Okwawu United would no more bear the penalties, including demotion, ban and fines imposed on the club, its players and officials.

Two other clubs, Mighty Jets and Great Mariners, who were fingered and punished for similar offences could also be affected by the new decision.

The four clubs had protested the disciplinary measures, insisting they were innocent of the charges of match fixing. They insisted they were handed the decisions without due process and against natural justice because they were not heard.
