Ghana hosts All Africa Sports 4/26/2007
Ghana is to host the African Sports Awards being organised by the Commonwealth Sports Awards in conjunction with Media Whiz Kids.

The event is aimed at rewarding excellence and outstanding sports men and women on the continent over the past years. It is fixed for November 17, at the State House in Accra.

Supporting the event are the Ghana@50 Secretariat, Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, National Sports Council (NSC) and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).

According to the organisers, the award winners will be selected across the length and breath of the continent to give the event a true African character.

The Chairman of the Commonwealth Sports Awards, Mr Al Hamilton, told the press that they are determined to put a splendid show that will befit the continent.

He said all the major sporting disciplines will be given due recognition at the event.

Mr Hamilton said recipients will be selected by a competent committee made up of astute journalists on the continent.

The public will also have the opportunity of participating in the selection process through text messaging of their favourite sports men and women.

Mr Charles Wereko-Brobby, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana@50 Secretariat said his outfit is ready to offer the oganisers any support needed to ensure the success of the programme.
