CAF Cup: Faisal beat Fello Stars
Kumasi, Sept 25, GNA - Two goals scored in each half ensured Ghana''s King Faisal victory over visiting Fello Stars of Guinea in their CAF Confederations Cup match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.
Eric Gawu scored the opener in the 23rd minute when he connected home a Bobie Ansah free kick from an acute angle after prolific Sumaila Alhassan had been brought down at the edge of the 18 yard box. Faisal who squandered many scoring chances had to wait till the 88th minute to seal the doom of Fello when Abubakar Yahuza slotted the ball into an empty net following a misunderstanding between goalkeeper Camara Ibrahima and his defender.

It was the Guineans who kicked off when referee Segonge Muhmed of Uganda whistled for commencement of the game but Faisal who were determined to repeat the 1-0 dose they inflicted on Fello in the first leg, quickly took over and nearly scored but Eric Ansah could not connect his head to a cross from Alhassan in the third minute while Gawu also followed suit by missing a chance to score in the fifth minute. Fello accepted the challenge and made series of incursions but the defence of Faisal kept them at bay.

Ben Wilson of Faisal also missed a glaring chance in the 20th minute with only the goalkeeper to beat when he shot wide of target while Diallo Mamadou of Fello Stars also fumbled with opportunity in the 21st minute.

The Fello gradually warmed themselves into the picture and got the first corner in the 22nd minute but wasted it to allow Faisal to score from a counter attack in the 23rd minute through Gawu. With their pride at stake, Fello mounted an attack on the home team and this nearly paid off for them in the 36th minute but hovering Mamadou again missed the post narrowly.
The Guineans came into the game strongly in the second half in an effort to find the equaliser and they nearly did in the 46th minute but Camara Mohammed shot off target with only goalkeeper Osei Boateng to beat.
The visitors continued to pile pressure and pinned Faisal to their half and this compelled coach Oti Akenteng to replace Eric Ansah with Prince Antwi in the 57th minute but it was still Fello who continued to dominate the game.
Fello had a corner kick in the 68th minute but could not covert it into a goal and again in a counterattack, Gawu pounced on a loose ball and raced with it just to fumble for his final shot to be booted out from entering the net by a defender in the 69th minute.
Sylla Pascal Moise of Fello took over from Diallo Mamadou in the 70th minute in their attempt to redeem the goal deficit but the Faisal defence was able to contain the situation.
Fello fought desperately to find the net but it was Faisal who increased the tally in the 88th minute through Yahuza against the run of play when he capitalised on the misunderstanding between a defender the goalie to slot home the second goal for Faisal.
Line up: Faisal: Osei Boateng, Eric Ansah/Prince Antwi, Akwasi Bobie Ansah, Iddrisu Yahaya, Richard Agyei, Kwabena Opoku, Ben Wilson, Abubakar Yahuza, Sumaila Alhassan/Joseph Asumani, Eric Gawu and Habib Mohammed.
