Hawa’s Body Arrives Tuesday 4/11/2007

The remains of Madam Hawa Yakubu are due to arrive in Accra on Tuesday, April 17, according to a family source. This would be followed by a laying-in-state function the next day, Wednesday April 18. Giving more details about the pre and post burial arrangements for the departed first vice chairperson of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the family source said a church service would be held for her on Thursday 19thand her remains would be flown finally to her hometown of Pusiga near Bawku in the Upper East Region where she would be buried on Saturday, April 21st.



There would be a thanksgiving service for her at Pusiga on Sunday, the following day. A final thanksgiving service would be held on Sunday 29th and would provide an opportunity for her sympathizers to express their affection to the departed woman leader. Madam Hawa Yakubu’s death has attracted copious tributes from a broad spectrum of Ghanaians, including politicians on both sides of the political divide, who extolled her good qualities.

Across the West African sub-region, she got close to the Heads of State, especially President Kufuor, Mr. Blaise Campaore of Burkina Faso and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia. She is further said to have worked with Liberia’s first female president campaign team. She is further said to have supported women seeking political office in the various political groupings with logistics in a bid to have more of her gender types in Parliament.Meanwhile President Kufuor has directed the office of State Protocol to ensure a befitting burial for the late Hawa Yakubu.
