Queens To Tour UK 4/4/2007
The first batch of 18 players and some officials of the national senior female soccer team, Black Queens, was expected to leave Accra last night for a two-week training tour in the United Kingdom (UK). The tour, aimed at preparing the Queens ahead of their third World Cup campaign in China in June, ends on April 10.

The Chairman of the Black Queens Management Committee, Mr Fred Crentsil, who revealed this to the Daily Graphic yesterday, said the team was expected to be joined in the UK by seven other local players tomorrow. He said those players could not travel with the first batch due to visa problems. He was, however, hopeful that the players in question would be granted the visas in time to enable them to travel on schedule.

Mr Crentsil gave the assurance that everything would be done to resolve the issue and explained that the US-based component of the team had been left out of the tour due to their tight academic commitments. He said further that the players, including Mavis Danso and Patricia Ofori, were currently preparing for their exams and would be free by April 15. He stressed that officials of the team were doing everything possible to ensure that the best players were selected to represent the nation at the World Cup. The Queens are scheduled to embark on another training tour of the US before the World Cup.

The team is being handled by Coach Isaac Paha, with Dan Owusu as his assistant.
