Asamoah switches nationality to Sweden 3/22/2007
Ghana will not have the services of Sweden-based table tennis player Cyprian Asamoah following the decision of the player to switch nationality.

GNA Sports reports that the Ghanaian has signed a 10 year contract to play for the Swedish National Table Tennis team.

According to the information, Asamoah is expected to be part of the Swedish national team that will participate in the 2007 World Tennis competition in Zagreb, Croatia in May.

Asamoah earlier in the year indicated his interest in playing for the Golden Loopers, Ghana’s national Table Tennis team but could not get the nod from officials of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA.

There were however earlier indications that the GTTA were considering inviting the player for a justify your inclusion exercise ahead of the All Africa Games, but this might seem to be too late for the nation now.

Ghana would therefore have to rely on the likes of Eric Amoah, Eric Hammond and Solomon Akunnor among other local players for the impending All Africa Games scheduled for Algiers, Algeria.

Top seed Amoah expressed regret at the turn of events, saying the player would have enhanced Ghana’s chances of winning more medals at the games in Algiers.

He said he had made enough efforts to get Asamoah play for Ghana but did not get enough support from the authorities.

GTTA is currently embarking on a monthly justify your inclusion exercise to select players for the national team.

At least six players will be selected according to their point build up for the final training programmes.
