Stevie Wonder To Perform 3/19/2007
The legendary African-American music star, Steveland Hardaway Judkins, popularly known as Stevie Wonder will add colour to Ghana’s Golden Jubilee celebrations with a live performance at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday, March 9, 2007.

Brazilian football legend, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pele, who is widely acclaimed as the greatest footballer of all time and African-American civil rights activist, Rev Jesse Jackson are among other high-profile international dignitaries who will be special guests of the nation during the anniversary celebrations.

The famous blind musician whose visit is at the invitation of President J.A Kufuor will sing his 1960 hit release “Happy Birthday” for the nation during his performance.

Dr Charles Wereko Brobbey, CEO of the Ghana@50 Secretariat said the performance of Stevie Wonder was expected to be spectacular and heavily patronised.

Born on May 13, 1950 and blind from birth, Stevie Wonder has recorded more than 30 top 10 hits, won 22 Grammy awards and an Oscar for the Best Song, among other life time achievements.

He is also an inductee of both the Rock and Roll and Songwriters halls of fame.

Stevie Wonder is one of the most successful and well-known artistes on the world with nine US number one hits to his credit and album sales totalling more than 100 million units.

He is a multi-instrumentalist, who plays the drums, congas, brass guitar, organ, harmonica, piano, synthesizer and lately, better known for his keyboard skills.

Dr Wereko Brobbey said on Thursday, March 8, 2007, Stevie Wonder will launch a documentary on Dr Kofi Abrefa Busia, Prime Minister of Ghana in the Second Republic.
