Didier Drogba is still the Premiership''s leading marksman

The newly crowned African Footballer of the Year, Didier Drogba, continued his good form in the Premiership scoring Chelsea''s opener at Portsmouth.

Fellow Ivorian Salomon Kalou secured the points with the second goal to earn Chelsea a 2-0 win.

Drogba remains the top scorer in the Premiership with 18 goals.

South African Benni McCarthy made the headlines scoring two penalties in the space of 10 minutes.

His brace gave Blackburn Rovers a 2-1 victory at Bolton Wanderers and raised the South Africa striker''s Premiership goal tally to 10.

Watford threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Charlton Athletic.

Algeria striker Hameur Bouazza finished from close range to open the scoring for Watford.

Bouazza has now scored four goals in the league for his struggling side.

Samuel Eto''o came on as a substitute

In Spain, Mali international Frederic Kanoute''s Sevilla took over at the top of the Primera Liga thanks to a titanic 2-1 win over Barcelona.

The Cameroon international Samuel Eto''o, formerly the African Player of the Year, was again only a substitute for Barcelona.

The former Mallorca striker did come on late in the second half, but he could not overturn the deficit after goals by Alexander Kerzhakov and Daniel Alves.

Cedric Makiadi was on target for the second weekend in a row.

His 65th minute goal for Wolfsburg was enough to beat Borussia Monchengladbach by a lone goal.

It was his third this season, Wolfsburg are now 9th after 24 games.

Egypt''s Mohamed Zidan failed to earn his side Mainz a point at Alemannia Aachen where they lost 2-1.

Zidan missed a penalty in the 84th minute, after he had put Mainz in the lead after 14 minutes.

Ivory Coast striker Abdelkader Keita scored two first-half goals for Lille in the 4-0 defeat of Troyes.

Keita has now scored six goals this season.

Algeria midfielder Mansour Boutabout scored his fourth this season with the second for his side Sedan who defeated Paris Saint-Germain 2-0.

Sedan are still bottom of the table but they are joined by Paris SG in the relegation zone.

Egypt midfielder Ahmed Hassan scored a hat-trick for Anderlecht in the 3-2 triumph over Charleroi.

The hat-trick takes the Egyptian''s tally to nine goals.

Nigeria striker Isaac Promise was on target for the seventh time this season with a second-half strike for Genclerbirligi in their 3-0 win over Vestel Manisa.
