PM warns SP, VVD 3/1/2007
AMSTERDAM – Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende warned the Socialist SP and Liberal VVD on Wednesday to refrain from engaging in "political games."

Balkenende said at a Christian democrat CDA election meeting in Brunssum that the SP and VVD were not conducting politics "like adults" when they threatened to block proposals in the Senate.

Balkenende''s warning came in response to statements from the Socialist SP and Liberal VVD factions in the Senate. They announced they would vote against legislative proposals (including a bill on the general old age pension AOW). The prime minister pointed out that they had not even seen the text of any proposals as yet.

The balance of parties in the Senate could shift after the Provincial States elections on 7 March.
