Orphanage director had criminal record 3/1/2007
AMSTERDAM - Henk M., the 59-year-old Dutchman accused of sexually abusing children in the orphanage he set up in Nepal, has been convicted of child abuse in the past. A spokesperson for the public prosecution department said this on Tuesday in response to a report on current affairs programme Netwerk.

M. was arrested in Spain in 1994. A year later a Spanish court sentenced him to 8 years in prison for raping a child under the age of 12. After Spain handed M. over to Dutch authorities, the court in Amsterdam decided on 13 May 1997 that he could be released.
