Large arsenal uncovered 2/23/2007
AMSTERDAM – The national criminal investigation service has uncovered a large arsenal in a home in Amsterdam-Buitenveldert.

A team of officers found 12 pistols and revolvers, a rifle, three Uzi machine guns, two Kalashnikov rifles, and an antitank missile in the apartment. The police also found 20 hand grenades, silencers, and boxes of ammunition.

The raid took place on Wednesday night but police did not release any information until this morning.

The police forced entry to the residence using explosives in order to surprise the resident. The resident, a 29-year-old man who holds a US passport, was arrested.

A spokesperson for the police says that the suspect is presumed to be a member of an extremely violent criminal gang with ties to the UK, Jamaica and the Netherlands. Members of the gang are reportedly responsible for killings in the UK. The man will appear before an examining judge later today.
