New Zealand attacker confesses 2/23/2007
AMSTERDAM — The men who brutally attacked and robbed the Dutch honeymooners in New Zealand in November last year were dressed as police officers.

Keith McEwen (30) and Christopher Manuel (27) tapped on the window of the camper the couple was using to travel around New Zealand. The “officers” then burst into the camper and threatened the couple with a gun. The woman was drugged, tied up and raped. Then the criminals drove the camper to all the nearby ATM machines forcing the couple to withdraw money.

The suspects were arrested ten days later. Earlier this week, McEwen, the older of the two, confessed he was guilty of both the rape and the robbery. He said he was addicted to methamphetamine and needed money to pay off his debts. The second suspect has not confessed.
