Slovakia to sell military hardware to Ghana? 2/23/2007
Accra, Feb. 22, GNA - The Slovak Republic is seeking areas of bilateral cooperation with Ghana, particularly in the defence sector, that would be of mutual benefit to the two countries.

Slovakia is proposing the idea of selling that country''s military hardware, reputed to be among one of the most robust in the world, to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

This was the outcome of a closed-door meeting between the Slovak Ambassador-Designate to Ghana, Mr Igor Hajdusek and the Defence Minister, Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor at Burma Camp in Accra on Thursday. Mr Hajdusek, who presented his credentials to President J.A Kufuor on Wednesday, told the Defence Minister that his country was ready to discuss the different areas of co-operation that both countries stood to benefit from and expressed the hope that such discussions would strengthen the already cordial relations between them.

Dr Addo-Kufuor expressed appreciation for the effort by the Ambassador to contact the Ministry and said Ghana was also interested in areas that would be beneficial to both countries.

Earlier, the Deputy Head of Mission of the French Embassy in Ghana, Mrs Evelyn Decorps, also called on the Minister but their meeting was also held behind closed doors.

She later told journalists that the meeting centred on broadening current bilateral military cooperation with Ghana.Source:
