Police Search Maurice de Hond 2/14/2007
AMSTERDAM — The National Criminal Investigation Police searched the house of the Netherlands’ most famous opinion pollster Maurice de Hond on Tuesday night, De Volkskrant writes.

The search, which lasted from 9 to 11 p.m., was connected to an old Deventer murder case. De Hond is suspected of having broken into the e-mail account of Jan Vlug, the lawyer of Michaël de J., whom De Hond considers the real murderer in the case.

A different man, Ernest Louwes, who has already spent years in prison, was convicted of the murder of Jacqueline Wittenberg from Deventer in September 1999. De Hond believes the wrong man is in prison.

In De Hond’s words, a massive operation has been launched to damage his reputation.

De Hond’s computer was confiscated.
