New Construction Plan Rotterdam 2030 2/14/2007
AMSTERDAM —In the coming 25 years, 56 new buildings will be built in the inner city, construction plan Stadsvisie (City Vision) Rotterdam 2030 says.

With a few exceptions, Rotterdam continued building only on the outskirts over the past few decades: Prinsenland, Alexanderpolder and later in Nesselande and Carnisselande.

Architect Adriaan Geuze told De Volkskrant in an interview yesterday that he was concerned about construction projects like the new one at Zuidplaspolder. Such projects draw the middle class away from the city centre, he said.

“The new plan is exactly what Geuze wanted. We have listened well”, Mayor of Rotterdam Ivo Opstelten said.
