AMSTERDAM – 48-year-old Huib de H. is being released after four and a half years in prison. His daughters and ex-wife are afraid he will come back to take revenge because of their testimony that he had raped and threatened to kill them, Het Algemeen Dagblad writes.

Huib’s 20-year-old daughter Felicity says she can never be happy and laugh like the rest of her friends after her father had been repeatedly raping her three to four times a week. “He took everything from me”.

Huib had been terrorising his wife and (step-)children for years. “Huib was married to my sister when I fell in love with him as a young girl. Two months after we got married, he hit me for the first time. After a while, I stopped feeling the pain, I became numb,’’ ex-wife Mieke recalls.

She had to move from house to house a dozen times, but her husband would find her every time. Mieke and Felicity only got up the courage to contact the police after they saw that Huib had begun approaching his other, 11-year-old daughter as well.

”He threatened he would come back and kill us. You get nothing for murder anyway, he said. He said he had nothing to lose”, Mieke added.

The Labour Party (PvdA), the Liberals (VVD) and the Christian Democrats (CDA) demanded today that one of the first laws drafted under the new cabinet should be a law preventing paedophiles from falling into their old behavioural patterns once they are released from prison.
