AMSTERDAM – Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip are visiting the Netherlands today.

In the early afternoon they will arrive at Rotterdam Airport, where they will be met by Queen Beatrix.

The British monarch has made very few visits to this country. She attended the William & Mary commemoration in July 1988.

Elizabeth II will attend a special ceremony at the Begijnhof in Amsterdam today to mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of the English Protestant Church.

She will also visit the Amsterdam Historical Museum and the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Tuesday marks the 55th anniversary of Elizabeth II ascension to the throne.
