Hurray! Grandma’s 69 Today 1/31/2007
31 January 2007

AMSTERDAM — Surrounded by her grandchildren (toddlers Count Claus-Casimir, Countess Luana, Countess Zaria, Countess Eloise, Countess Leonore, Princess Catharina-Amalia and Princess Alexia) Queen Beatrix is celebrating her 69th birthday today.

The celebrations are held at the Huis ten Bosch Palace in the presence of the Queen’s sons, daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren, De Telegraaf writes.

Next year, when the Queen turns 70, she will be joined by one more grandchild. Máxima will have her third child in April.

Queen Beatrix is feeling better than exactly a year ago, when she was recovering from a complicated knee operation. She does not even exclude the possibility she’ll dance at the party tonight.

The Queen is busy these days as the new cabinet formation is under way. If the cabinet is formed soon, Beatrix may be going on a skiing vacation to the Austrian Lech in mid-February, together with Willem-Alexander, Princess Máxima and their children.

An important four-day visit to Turkey is scheduled for late February.
