EU expresses willingness to work with AU 1/30/2007
Accra, Jan. 30, GNA - The European Union (EU) on Tuesday expressed the willingness to work with the African Union (AU) and its new Chairperson, President John Agyekum Kufuor, closely and constructively in the spirit of partnership and mutual trust.

A statement in Accra by Mr Peter Linder, German Ambassador to Ghana, in his capacity as the representative of the Presidency of the European Union in Ghana, congratulated President Kufuor on his election as the new chairperson of the African Union, noting that in recent years, the African Union had become a major international player.

He said the contributions the AU made to strengthening democracy and stability and especially resolving conflicts was of great importance for the whole of the African Continent.

"Its role in promoting regional integration and economic development in Africa is of equal significance. With the current crises in Somalia and Sudan, much is expected of the African Union and its Chairperson this year," Mr Linder said.Source:
