New Ga Mantse Nominated 1/29/2007
The king makers of one of the royal houses of the Ga State, Nii Teiko Tsuru We, have nominated Kelvin Nii Tackie as its candidate to succeed the late Ga Mantse, Boni Nii Amugi.

Nii Tackie, a product of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), is to be presented to the Ga Royal Dzaase for its endorsement shortly after the burial of the late Ga Mantse, whose burial rites are under way in Accra.

The nomination of Nii Tackie is expected to spark another round of controversy over the rightful person to succeed the late Ga Mantse, since the same royal house had earlier selected Dr Joe Blankson of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) as the one to ascend the throne.

Although the selection of Dr Blankson, who was expected to rule under the stool name King Tackie Tawiah III, was rejected by three other royal houses of the Ga State, the Ga Traditional Council accepted him as the rightful person to succeed Boni Nii Amugi II.

A copy of the approval notice for Nii Tackie, dated January 8, 2007, was made available to the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday.

The notice was signed by Niibi Nii Teiko Tackie, Emmanuel Nii Teiko Tackie, Winston Nii Teiko Tackie, Prince Nii Teiko Tackie, Nii Adama Nkpa, Daniel Nii Tackie and Kingsley Nii Teiko Tackie.

The notice explained that eight out of the 11 gates present at the meeting for the selection and nomination formed the two thirds majority and was, therefore, lawfully constituted to undertake the selection exercise.

It said four eligible persons from the same family stood for selection and in the end Dr E.N.A. Tackie eventually passed on the privilege to Kelvin Nii Tackie.

“The committee unanimously accepted Dr Tackie’s proposition by confirming Kelvin Nii Tackie Abia Tackie as the selected candidate from the Nii Tackie Tsuru We to be presented to the Dzaase for approval and installation,” the notice added.

Born on August 2, 1971, Kelvin Nii Tackie began a production company, Keeda Productions, in 1995, which developed creative musical culture and talents in the youth.

He also enrolled in the National Board for Small-Scale Industries (NBSSI) as the Ashanti Regional resource person. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Ke-Clean Limited which provides cleaning and waste management services for local authorities and corporate entities.

Kelvin Nii Tackie is presently the Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the GaDangme Association in the Ashanti Region.

The soft-spoken nominee later told the Daily Graphic that he stood for peace and unity and was prepared, after he had been accepted by the Ga Royal Dzaase, to unite all the citizens of the Ga State.
