AMSTERDAM - Director Alex van Warmerdam has won the Golden Film Award for his feature The Waiter (Ober). The prize will be awarded on Sunday at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, ANP reports.

Van Warmerdam did not only write the script and direct the film. He also played the part of Edgar who serves as a waiter in a badly run restaurant. Edgar hates his job and his life in general, and decides to do something about it.

Other actors featured in the film are Ariane Schluter, Jaap Spijkers, Mark Rietman, Thekla Reuten, Kees Prins and Pierre Bokma. Ober was produced by Mark van Warmerdam of Graniet Film.

The Golden Film Award is awarded to any Dutch film that has been viewed by over 100,000 viewers.

The 36th International Film Festival Rotterdam opened Wednesday and will continue until 4 February.
