Obed`s DFP Moves Into High Gear 1/26/2007
Thursday, 25 January 2007
Information exclusively available to the Ghanaian Observer newspaper indicates that, as part of the strategies to make the desired level of impact on the electorate and effectively conduct its 2008 political agenda, the leadership of Obed Asamoah`s Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has begun inaugurating party offices nation-wide.

The programme for Accra has however been held up for now, owing to this weekend`s funeral activities for the late Ga Mantse Boni Nii Amugi, who is now with his ancestors. Promoters of DFP, GO, learnt, are feverishly working in the various regions in that regard, setting up offices and inducting officers for the various regions and constituencies.

The move followed three phases of low-profile but incisive campaign moves in all the 230 constituencies nation-wide in preparation for the 2008 elections. The move, GO learnt, yielded 1250 cells in all the 230 constituencies, with several defection stories hitting the headlines in both the state-owned and the private papers. The move, according to GO sources in the Greater Accra Region, will culminate in full-blast political activity in the market-places, youth centres, alleys and nooks and crannies round the country-side.

GO was also told that the DFP will soon inaugurate a task force to go through the voters register and check for double registration, especially in areas in the Zongos, indigenous Accra, Madina, the three northern regions as well as the Volta and Brong-Ahafo regions. The DFP task force is also committed to helping arrest all culprits engaged in multiple registration after due consultations with the Police and Electoral Commission officials. `This is the DFP`s contribution to free, fair and incident-free 2008 elections,` one top official told GO, warning that all those who are being paid by a particular party to engage in multiple registrations will be laughing on the wrong sides of their mouths on election day, if they allowed themselves to be misused by `political terrorists in the country, who thrive on conflict and intimidation.`

Nikoi Addison, Greater Accra Coordinator for the DFP, confirmed the inauguration story but refused comment on the other aspects of our story like the task force set up by his party to expose multiple registration in the areas cited by GO, stressing that strategies like intelligence material on how the DFP intends to conduct its 2008 warfare remains a secret to the party.

He however admitted that multiple registration on the part of activists or party sympathisers is a crime all parties, including the ruling New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress must unite to fight to help deepen the nation`s democratic processes.
