Kofi Annan delivers Golden Jubilee lecture 1/25/2007
The immediate past Secretary-General of the United Nations, Busumuru Kofi Annan, is scheduled to deliver the Golden Jubilee Inaugural Lecture on Thursday evening as part of Ghana’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

The lecture scheduled for the Accra International Conference Centre at 5:30pm is under the theme, ‘Championing Africa’s Renaissance; In pursuit of self-reliance and sustainable economic liberation in Africa’.

President J.A. Kufuor will be the special Guest of Honour while the Chairman of the Council of State, Professor Adzei Bekoe will be in the chair.

The Ghana@50 Secretariat has been asking members of the public desiring to attend the strictly-by-invitation function to apply for invitation through the sponsorship coordinator on telephone number 233244844637.

Busumuru Kofi Annan, who returned to Ghana to a tumultuous welcome on Tuesday night after a distinguished career at the UN spanning some four decades, met the country’s leadership on Wednesday, in what has widely been acknowledged as a refreshingly unifying intervention.

In an unprecedented gesture, political opponents including President Kufuor and Professor J.E.A. Mills of the National Democratic Congress found justification enough to freely share in the homecoming of one of Ghana’s illustrious sons at the Osu Castle seat of Government.

And the statesman in Kofi Annan came readily into play as he urged the New Patriotic Party and NDC to unite for the good of the nation.
