Atletico fined for Webo abuse 1/25/2007
Atletico Madrid have been fined for the racist behaviour of their fans towards Osasuna''s Cameroonian striker Pierre Webo.

The Spanish Football Federation, which did not disclose the amount of the fine, also warned Atletico that the Vicente Calderon Stadium would be closed if it happened again.

The incident occurred during Saturday''s highly-charged league 1-0 win over Osasuna, which saw four players of the visiting team being sent off.

Atletico supporters made monkey noises at Webo during the first half of the game.

Referee Vicente Lizondo Cortes also reported that one of his assistants was hit by two batteries thrown from the crowd.

Other projectiles were hurled onto the field.

Atletico has been fined in the past for racist taunting of players, including Real Madrid''s Brazil left back Roberto Carlos, Espanyol''s Cameroon goalkeeper Carlos Kameni and Mali midfielder Mohamed Sissoko, then of Valencia.

Last week, Real Madrid was also fined an undisclosed amount and warned its home stadium could be closed.

Supporters showered the field with projectiles, hitting an assistant referee, during its Spanish Cup match against Real Betis.
