New USB memory stick lost with names of PM''s guards 1/24/2007
AMSTERDAM — A Dutch public servant has again lost a USB memory stick containing confidential information.

This time, the data included secret entrance codes to the home of a Dutch diplomat and the names of the guards who accompanied Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende on a recent trip to Poland.

The USB stick originated from the Dutch embassy in the Polish capital of Warsaw, newspaper ''De Volkskrant'' reported on Tuesday.

An official with the Dutch Foreign Ministry left the memory stick behind in a rental car. The ministry knows the identity of the person who lost the stick.

An internal investigation has been launched into the incident to determine how the USB stick could be lost in such a manner.

The memory stick also contained details about the Dutch embassy, such as maps and accounts books. Letters of rejection to job applicants, including photos and telephone numbers, were also on the stick.

The Foreign Ministry said the data did not include "officially confidential documents", but also stressed that the loss is "exceptionally annoying".

Officials with the Defence Ministry have recently lost USB sticks also.

One of those was later discovered in a rental car. It contained information about the Dutch military mission to the Afghan province of Uruzgan.

The Defence Ministry decided in July to start advising against the use of memory sticks.
