NMC Fulfils Constitutional Duty 1/19/2007
The National Media Commission (NMC) today completed its constitutional duty of appointing Board of Directors for the 4 state-owned media, with the inauguration of the reconstituted Board of Directors of the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL) at the Corporation’s premises in Accra today.

The reconstituted Board of the GCGL is chaired by the Kuronti of Akuapem- Osahene Ofei Kwasi Agyemang IV. The other state-owned media whose Boards were inaugurated earlier in the week are the Ghana News Agency (GNA), New Times Corporation (NTC) and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

The immediate former Board chairman of the GCGL, Prof. Kwame Gyekye said during the three and a half years in office of the old Board, dividend paid to government by the corporation increased by 1,500 per cent over the 500 million cedis which was paid to the government before the old Board came into office.

Prof. Gyekye therefore said state enterprises can make laudable profit when given the necessary freedom to operate and when there is effective supervision and mechanisms to prevent or minimise corruption and the welfare of the staff is properly catered for.

The chairman of the National Media Commission, Mr Paul Adu Gyamfi commended the GCGL for its enviable performance and the good image it has won on the media scene and urged the corporation to work harder to maintain its good record.
