Travellers mistaken for armed robbers; One lynched 1/15/2007
Atuntuma (Ash), Jan 15, GNA - The Nyinahin police are investigating the death of one Salifu Muntali, 40, who was among six travelers allegedly beaten by a mob who mistook them for robbers at Atuntuma near Adiembra in the Atwima-Mponua District.

The mob set ablaze the taxicab on which they were traveling. The Nyinahin police rescued the five and sent them to hospital. Briefing the Ghana News Agency Detective Police Chief Inspector David Danso said on January 11, the six passengers including a woman were traveling from Krofofrom in the Amansie West District to Mpatuom their hometown through Atuntuma in the Atwima-Mponua District.

He said a few kilometers to Atuntuma, the taxicab developed a fault and as the driver was repairing it, a 33-seater Benz bus with mourners from Subiriso saw the six people and branded them as armed robbers.

The mourners attacked them and took three of them including Muntali to Atuntuma where they were subjected to severe beatings resulting in the death of Muntali. He said no arrest has been made.Source:
