Some GES directors misapply Capitation Grant 1/12/2007
Bechem (B/A), Jan. 12, GNA - A retired educationist in the Brong-Ahafo Region has alleged that some officials in the region were misapplying the Capitation Grant and called on the government to take action.

Speaking to the Ghan a News Agency at Duayaw Nkwanta in Tano District, Mr. Nicholas Oppong said if immediate action was not taken the scheme would be undermined.

"The scheme is laudable but the activities of some greedy education officials are eroding the gains of the well-intended scheme." Mr. Oppong alleged that some district directors connived with their budget officers and accountants to deduct at source sports, culture and examination fees from the grants.

"Head teachers who have had the courage to complain have been threatened with transfers from their districts", he said. Mr. Oppong appealed to the government to act without delay to sustain the scheme and to weed out the "unscrupulous directors who feed fat on the Capitation Grant to the detriment of their schools".Source:
