Don''t indulge in Politics of Division - Abuga Pele 1/12/2007
Chiana (UE), Jan. 11, GNA- The Member of Parliament (MP) for Chiana-Paga Constituency, Mr. Abuga Pele, on Thursday cautioned the youth of the area to be wary of politicians who would want to use them to achieve their selfish political interests.

The MP sounded the caution in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Chiana in the Kassena-Nanakana district of the Upper East Region.

He exhorted the Youth to see development as paramount and to be careful not to allow themselves to be pulled into politics of division. The MP also reacted to a story placed on the Ghana Website by a group calling itself "Concerned Youth Association of Navrongo East" which alleged that the MP could not boast of any meaningful development he had brought to the Navrongo East apart from sporting activities and greeting of funerals.

He debunked that assertion, pointing out that he single-handedly supported the Sirigu Senior Secondary School in the area during its establishment until the Government absorbed it in 2005.

Mr. Pele explained that over the past year he had been sponsoring over 100 students in tertiary institutions who hailed from Navrongo East.

He said he had also supported the Kandiga Women Basket Weaving Association in the area with initial capital, and noted that the women had also benefited from the loan scheme he initiated in the area. He further stated that he had supported the Kassena-Nankana district in the construction of clinics and schools, and constructed a shed at the Mirigu Chief''s Palace. He also provided roofing sheets for the Kandiga and the Mirigu day care centers.

The MP said even if he had invested much in sports as compared to other developmental projects as being alleged, people of the area should not forget the fact that sports also played a very significant role in National Development and that as a ranking Member of Parliament for Youth and Sports, he owed it as a duty to focus attention on the development of sports.

He advised his political opponents to be wary of the fact that people are now intelligent and can discern things for themselves and could not therefore be easily swayed by them for their parochial interest.

" I would never be detracted by any false allegation leveled against me by anybody and would continue to perform my duties assigned to me by the Government and my people", he declared.Source:
