Ghana To Host 2nd Africa Initiative 1/11/2007
The second conference of the Partnership with African Initiative on the theme: “Two Generations, One Future,” opens in Accra on January 12,2007.

The three day forum will take place for the first time in Africa at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

This year is a special year for Ghana and Africa, since 50 years ago in 1957, Ghana was the first African country to gain independence from colonial rule. The second African conference is the first event organised by Ghana this historic anniversary.

President John Agyekum Kufuor and Germany’s Federal President Horst Kohler have invited about 50 young leaders from Germany and 18 African states to engage in dialogue with President Festus G. Mogae of Botswana, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia and Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria as well as Alpha Oumar Konare of The African Union.

Together with about 30 leaders from politics, business, research and culture, the leaders will discuss issues which are vital to the common future of all the participants, such as the environment and management of the natural world, armed conflict and everyday violence, educational opportunities and employment prospects and democratic participation.

The conference is part of a venture to build up a network of young leaders under the auspices of the Partnership with African Initiative to elaborate common strategies and proposals for the future.
