Firecrackers cause second havoc in Bawku 1/10/2007
Pusiga (U/E), Jan. 9, GNA - The use of firecrackers, in spite of a ban in the Bawku Municipality, has caused its second havoc in less than a week burning a five-room building.

In the second incident at Pusiga one Awudu in the company of his friends allegedly threw a firecracker on a thatched-roof store, destroying it altogether with all its contents.

The victim and his colleagues also retaliated by burning down Awudu''s family house, heightening tension in the Pusiga Township. Briefly the Ghana New Agency (GNA), the Bawku District Police Commander, ASP Alex C Acquah, said on Thursday at about 22 hours the police received a call from the station officer at Pusiga for reinforcement.

He explained that a joint police-military intervention prevented the town from being plunged into chaos since most of the youth belonging to the two major ethnic groupings had armed themselves and were ready to engage in a fight.

ASP Acquah said six persons including two juveniles were arrested and cautioned before granted bail, whilst the two instigators had fled the town.Source:
